Finding Mandrakes in the Wild
Buying mandrakes can be costly, but finding them in the wild is free! At least, they are free in terms of money. The time it takes to track down wild mandrakes can be significant. You can find these plants the Forgotten Forest, although they are not very common. If you discover a small house with a corpse nearby, look for a small cluster of these plants. When you find them, remember their location as they will grow back over time. Thankfully, foraging is not the only way to find a mandrake.
How to Grow Mandrakes
Arguably the best option for getting your hands on a mandrake is by growing them yourself. This option isn’t available right away, but you can grow mandrakes as soon as you gain access to the potting table. You can use your pot available to you in herbology class. It is also possible to gain additional potting tables when you discover the Room of Requirement.
Of course, the next step in the process is getting mandrake seeds. There is only one place to pick them up: a vendor called Dogweed and Deathcap. If you haven’t discovered it yet, you can find Dogweed and Deathcap in Hogsmeade. Another tip: purchasing fertilizer will increase the number of Mandrakes produced by these seeds!
