There are few who are more spontaneous or charming as the satyr. Satyrs were enemies until the Mythic Odysseys of Theros. Fey beings, satyrs have wonderful, celebratory spirits. They have the upper body of a human, the legs of a goat (only a single pair, mind you!), and horns. While this combination of mammals may be horrifying to some, satyrs don’t let that get them down. They are nimble, constantly happy, and simultaneously deeply interested in the world. Our Satyr Names guide will help you decide on a name perfect for these playful creatures.
Satyrs name their children quite late into their birthing process. Not as late as elves, mind you, but they actually require some thought. If you randomly generate a name, you are randomly generating a personality for your satyr. That’s not too great! Try to at least figure out your satyr’s background and ideologies beforehand, and consider their culture.
Do Satyrs Have Names?
In the 5th Edition of Dungeons and Dragons, satyrs all have names. Satyrs, in both Theros and the Forgotten Realms, find that the world is too serious. Politics bore them, wars don’t make sense to them, and even creatures like gnomes are looking too hard for something to do. For satyrs, life is to be experienced. They want to slow down and smell the flowers, and then party until the sun rises.
To the outsider, a satyr party is nothing more than a drunken festival, full of alcohol and unspeakable acts. That’s not far off, but for satyrs, revelry is a way of life. Partying is more about breaking the tight, confining restraints of time. It’s about tasting a delicious pie, listening to the birds sing, and embracing your surroundings with all of your senses.
Satyrs also party to honor the gods. Satyrs are said to have a god, Xenagos. Xenagos, unlike many gods, is known more for his mistakes. He was bitter at the gods, and was slain for his eccentricities and pranks. Thus, satyrs look to him more as a guide of not to do, while celebrating his revelrous spirit. Instead, they party to engage with all of the gods.
Satyrs, just like Xenagos, have little quirks that inform their decision-making process and annoy those of other races around them. They spend little to no time worrying about their tastes or behaviors, just accepting them. This can be extremely interesting to pick at, but the game shouldn’t be slowed down much just so a satyr can climb a tree. Make sure to keep a balance!

What are Good Satyr Names?
However, those eccentricities can actively affect how a satyr interacts with their names. Satyrs are named based on when their personalities start to blossom. They also gain a nickname, usually based on their little quirks that their parents enjoy.
Do Satyrs Have Last Names?
Satyrs do not generally have last names? Typically a satyr has two names. The first is the name they are given at birth. The second is the nickname they have earned during life.
