Lamplight City Preview
Billed as a detective adventure set in an “alternate steampunk-ish Victorian” past, Lamplight City follows detective-turned-PI Miles Fordham in his quest to solve his partner’s murder. This upcoming adventure game developed by Grundislav Games is created by the maker of A Golden Wake, and it seems clear that Lamplight City builds on some of the best aspects of its predecessor.
Set for release on September 13, 2018, Lamplight City lets you explore the dark side of New Bretagne by investigating five different crimes. You have options during your quest for answers; you can run your investigation on the straight and narrow or take shortcuts that aren’t exactly legal. However, there are consequences for bending the rules.
Every case you take has multiple suspects, false leads, and differing outcomes. How you approach each case can differ with each playthrough and the story adjusts each time. If you hit a dead end on a case you can move on to the next one and the story will adapt.
In all, there are 50 unique characters you can interact with. The audio includes professional voice actors and an original score. Your investigation will take you through all four city boroughs, each with their own vibrant social ecosystems. While you work to solve crimes, the city pulses around you. You can immerse yourself in the struggles between classes and a distrust for the growing steam-powered industrial revolution.
If Lamplight City is up your alley, be sure to check out the official site for more information. We here at Nerds and Scoundrels will be playing it on September 13, so look forward to our review then!
